Workshop “Security – Data Protection in Transport” December 15, 2022

The workshop entitled “Security – Data Protection in Transport” took place on December 15, 2022, at the facilities of the Professional and Industrial Chamber of Rodopi in Komotini. Beyond the introductory greeting, the workshop consisted of three distinct sections/themes for presentation and discussion among participants, focusing on the crisis in the supply chain and the need for data management and protection in the transport sector.

The first part of the conference was organized as a round table discussion titled “The Crisis of the Supply Chain and the Need for Data Management”.
The second part “Presentation of Research Results of the EN.I.R.I.S.S.T Project – Subproject of DUTH.”, this section addressed the primary results and conclusions from the DUTH’s subproject concerning security and data protection in transport.
The last section allowed for a related discussion among the speakers and the conference participants concerning the supply chain crisis and the necessity for effective data management and protection in the transport sector. Additionally, the speakers from the first section briefly commented on the main conclusions derived from it, both for the scientific community and the region’s business ecosystem.
Moreover, there was an extensive discussion regarding the results of gathering the requirements of potential users of the EN.I.R.I.S.S.T research infrastructure in the transport sector, emphasizing data management. Summarized results of a questionnaire conducted by the research team of DUTH for collecting the requirements and needs of the potential users of the research infrastructure operating in Greece were presented.

The participants of this research workshop expressed significant interest in the results of the research, particularly concerning documenting and gathering requirements for potential users of the EN.I.R.I.S.S.T research infrastructure in the transport sector. They also emphasized the usefulness of developing a research infrastructure in the transport sector in Greece. Specifically, they highlighted the lack of access to data management platforms in Greece and the importance of developing the Interoperability Observatory of Infrastructures and Networks (https://enirisst-plus-duth.eu/). This observatory, developed by the research team of DUTH within the scope of the project, particularly emphasizes transport and the supply chain, as it’s one of the sectors with the highest demand and contribution to the country’s tourism development.
