“Use and Analysis of Data in Interurban Transportation for Operational Decision Support” December 16, 2022
Scientific and educational actions (summer school) were held in person during a series of events concerning data management, analysis, and protection to support operational decisions, emphasizing the sectors of transportation and the supply chain, on Thursday, December 15, and Friday, December 16, 2022.
The scientific/educational event took place in person on Friday, December 16, 2022, at the facilities of the Department of Economic Sciences DUTH. The scientific/educational event consisted of three (3) distinct sections/thematic areas of presentation and discussion among participants concerning the use and analysis of data to support operational decisions, emphasizing the sectors of transportation and the supply chain.
The first section (thematic area) of the day was a roundtable discussion titled “The Use and Analysis of Data in Interurban Transportation as a Tool for Operational Decision Support,” which lasted, two (2) hours.
The thematic area entitled “Presentation of Research Results – Discussion with Young Researchers,” focused on presenting the main research outcomes regarding the use and analysis of data as a tool to support operational decisions. Furthermore, it provided a platform for discussion/consultation between potential Ph.D. candidates and young researchers with the students of the department. In total, this segment lasted five (5) hours. Each presentation lasted half an hour, followed by a discussion/consultation of 20 minutes.
The third and final thematic area of the event revolved around a relevant discussion/consultation between the speakers and participants concerning the significance of data analysis for the support of operational decisions, especially in the critical sectors of transportation and the supply chain. This part of the event lasted half an hour in total.
In the context of the relevant discussion/consultation, a presentation took place on the new Observatory (Παρατηρητηρίο Διαλειτουργικότητας Υποδομών και Δικτύων – ΠΔΥΔ) was developed at the Democritus University of Thrace. Amid the wave of price hikes in products and services, the continuously changing energy costs, and intense competition in the tourism and trade sectors, this new platform offers significant support in monitoring and analyzing the elements of the supply chain to back sustainable and competitive entrepreneurship.
The presentation was made by the Scientific Director, Professor of the Department of Economic Sciences of the Democritus University of Thrace, Mr. Dimitrios Dimitriou. Throughout the presentation and the demonstrations of the platform by researchers, the main aspects of the Observatory of Interoperability of Infrastructures and Networks (ΠΔΥΔ) were highlighted. This observatory was developed within the research infrastructures EN.I.R.I.S.S.T. and EN.I.R.I.S.S.T+ .
