The project “ENIRISST – Intelligent Research Infrastructure for Shipping, Supply Chain, Transport and Logistics” (MIS 5027930) which is implemented under the Action “Reinforcement of the Research and Innovation Infrastructure”, funded by the Operational Programme “Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship and Innovation” (NSRF 2014-2020) and co-financed by Greece and the European Union (European Regional Development Fund).
The School of Mechanical Engineering was founded in 1972. In its 40+ years of operation it has contributed significantly to the development of the science and practice of Mechanical Engineering throughout Greece. The School has established itself as a leading unit of excellence both in Greece but also in the competitive global academic environment providing high-quality student-centric education, keeping abreast with the dynamic changes of the economic and technological landscape.
The School is organized in three Departments: Design and Structures, Energy, and Industrial Management.
Members of the Research Team
Dimitrios Vlachos (Professor): He is the Director of the Laboratory of Statistics and Quantitative Analysis Methods, Industrial Management Division of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), Greece. He conducts research and consulting in the fields of supply chain management, logistics, applied operational research, combined transport systems management, business restructuring and strategy development. He has participated in more than 60 research projects (in 15 of them as a principal investigator) activities in the field of Supply Chain Management, and he has co-authored the respective technical reports. He has published more than 200 papers in scientific journals, conference proceedings and book chapters. He has participated as a consultant or expert in numerous projects funded by public and private organizations. He is a member of the Institute for Operational Research and Management Science (INFORMS), the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) and the Hellenic Operational Research Society (EEEE). He is now President of the Greek Association of Supply Chain Management (EEL) and member of the Management Board since 2007. Prof. Vlahos has acted as a business consultant in Supply Chain Management issues in companies. Assistant Professor Dimitrios Bechtsis: He serves as Assistant Professor at the Industrial Engineering and Management Department of the International Hellenic University (IHU), Greece and he is a senior researcher at the Laboratory of Statistics and Quantitative Analysis Methods, Industrial Management Division of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh). He holds a Ph.D. from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, A.U.Th., an M.Sc. degree in Medical Informatics, A.U.Th. and a Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, A.U.Th.. He conducts research in the fields of Digital Supply Chains, Logistics, combined transport systems management, Information Technology, Industry 4.0, Autonomous Vehicles, while he is focusing on the incorporation of intelligent autonomous vehicles and systems in the supply chain ecosystem. He has published more than 30 papers in acknowledged peer-reviewed scientific journals, as chapters in scientific books and in many national and international conference proceedings, while he has participated in more than 30 National and European research projects. He also serves as a reviewer in scientific journals. He has participated as an expert and reviewer in numerous projects funded by public and private organizations. Ass. Prof. Bechtsis is a member of several associations, such as the Technical Chamber of Greece and he is a member of the Management Board of the Greek Association of Supply Chain Management of Northern Greece (EEL-NG).
