School of Civil Engineering

The School of Civil Engineering, established in 1955, concurrently with the Faculty of Engineering, constitutes its oldest and largest department, both in terms of teaching stuff and students. The School is organized into 4 Divisions, the Division of Structural Engineering, the Division of Hydraulics and Environmental Engineering, the Division of Geotechnical Engineering and the Division of Transport and Project Management. The Teaching and Research Staff of the division counts 62 members. The school operates 3 independently operating postgraduate specialization programs as well as a postgraduate program leading to a PhD degree and takes part in the operation of 4 other Interdisciplinary postgraduate programs.

Members of the Research Team

Assistant Professor Ioannis Politis: is an Assistant Professor of Transportation Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. His research interests include all fields relative to transportation engineering, with emphasis on the fields of Urban Mobility, Public Transport and Transport Economics. Since 2019 he is the Director of the Transport Engineering Laboratory of the Division of Transport and Project Management of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He has authored a significant number of scientific articles in international journals and conferences, whose impact has been acknowledged by the scientific community through numerous citations. In addition, he has participated in a significant number of research projects, both national and European, either as a coordinator or as a principal investigator, achieving to attract more than 1 million Euros worth of funds. He is an evaluator of research proposals and studies in Greece, Cyprus and European institutions (European Commission, European Institute of Technology, etc.). In addition, he has participated in a multitude of Engineering Consulting studies in Greece and abroad, on projects regarding promoting Sustainable Urban Mobility, Techno-Economic Assessment of projects and basic infrastructure, as well as Strategic Planning at national, regional and local level.
